Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland is dead at 48

Scott Weiland, the former lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, died Thursday night in Minnesota. He was 48.

On Weiland's Facebook page, a message has been posted, saying he "passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott's family be respected." TMZ reports the band was scheduled to play a show Thursday night at the Medina Ballroom. No cause of death has been given.
