Apple expected to unveil new smaller iPhone, iPad today

Apple is hosting an event Monday morning at its main campus in Cupertino, California, saying on its invitation only "Let us loop you in," presumably at least partly a reference to the building's address, 1 Infinite Loop. Because of the venue and expected product launches, analysts are expecting a relatively low-key event, centered around a new, smaller version of the iPhone 6. Other possible products include a smaller version of the iPad Pro, combining the more powerful processors and keyboard compatibility of the business-oriented iPad Pro with the smaller footprint of the iPad Air, and new wrist straps for the Apple Watch.

The iPhone is the focus of media speculation because of its central role in Apple's financial dominance. The company sold a record number in 2015, including 74.8 million in the final quarter of the year, but Apple has indicated that demand has leveled off or even declined a bit. A more radically redesigned iPhone 7 is expected in the fall.
