Dear Evan Hansen won the award for Best New Musical at the Tony Awards in New York City on Sunday night, along with five other trophies, making it the big winner of the 2017 theater awards ceremony. Oslo, a drama about the 1993 Middle East peace talks, won Best New Play. Hello, Dolly! won the prize for Best Musical Revival, while its star, Bette Midler, won her second Tony. Dear Evan Hansen, starring Ben Platt and written by Steven Levenson with songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, is about a lonely 17-year-old outsider and the fallout when he makes up a friendship with a classmate who committed suicide. Kevin Spacey hosted the awards show. You can find the full list of winners at Variety.
