welcome back
Steve Scalise is back
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) returned to Capitol Hill on Thursday, for the first time since being shot in the hip at a Republican congressional baseball team practice in June:
Scalise was seriously wounded in the attack, and he spent six weeks in treatment, CNN reports. "I mean, my femur was shattered," Scalise told CBS News in an interview. "The hip and pelvis had serious damage where the bullet went through and, you know, did some damage to areas that had to be shored up with steel plates ... They did a phenomenal job of rebuilding, you know, kind of rebuilding Humpty Dumpty." The gunman was killed by police at the scene.

Scalise is expected to return to work on the Hill and continue his out-patient rehabilitation in Washington, CNN reports. Watch him receive a standing ovation after returning to the House floor here.
