Voters to cast ballots in primaries, runoffs in 7 states
Primary season continues on Tuesday with elections in Colorado, Maryland, New York, Oklahoma, and Utah, and runoff elections in Mississippi and South Carolina.
In the race to be the congressional representative of New York's Staten Island, former Rep. Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.), a felon with a Trump-like personality, is projected to beat the White House-backed incumbent, Rep. Dan Donovan (R-N.Y.). Also in New York, 10-term Rep. Joe Crowley (D), representing parts of Queens and the Bronx, is facing his first major challenger in his career, a progressive 28-year-old, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
President Trump has doubled down on his support for South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) in the runoff against political outsider John Warren. In Maryland, nine Democrats are jostling to take on Republican Gov. Larry Hogan in November. In Utah, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) is the heavy favorite against Rep. Mike Kennedy, a Trump ally, in the state's Senate primary. Read more about the elections to watch on Tuesday at Politico, and about each race at USA Today.
