Republican Mitt Romney defeated Democrat Jenny Wilson in the Utah Senate race, NBC News projects. The call came moments after the polls closed in the state.

The governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 and the Republican nominee for president in 2012, Romney led his opponent by more than 30 points in recent polling. Romney's return to politics comes amid his high-profile criticisms of President Trump.
