On Thursday, a federal judge approved Paul Manafort's forfeiture of his Trump Tower apartment to the U.S. government, part of his guilty plea stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. "So that means that you are now part-owner of Unit 43G in 721 Fifth Ave. in New York, New York," Chris Hayes told America on MSNBC Thursday evening. "Congratulations." He showed some photos of the 2-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 1,500-square-foot condo, recapped the "pretty shady" way Manafort paid for it in 2006, and explained that U.S. Marshals will soon auction it off on our behalf.
"But don't get too excited," Hayes cautioned. "Trump Tower units aren't selling the way they used to." Manhattan real estate is among the most expensive in the world, and almost nobody sells at at loss — unless they own units in Trump Tower, he said, where condos have been selling at losses of more than 20 percent over the past two years. In fact, "we did some browsing for hot deals on current listings in Trump Tower, and I'm telling you, it is a fire sale in there," Hayes said, showing some examples. "It's a bloodbath happening right in the middle of one of the world's strongest real estate markets — all seemingly due to the five letters on the front of the building." Watch below. Peter Weber
