Disney released a teaser trailer for its live-action version of Mulan on Sunday, introducing the world to Yifei Liu's version of the heroine.
Based on the narrative poem The Ballad of Mulan and a remake of the 1998 animated film, the movie follows Mulan as she takes her frail father's place in the emperor's army, presenting herself as a man. During the 90-second trailer, viewers discover that a matchmaker has found a partner for Mulan, which her father says is the best thing for her family. She promises "to bring honor to us all," and the trailer picks up steam, showing sweeping landscape shots and training sessions, with Mulan expertly using a bow and arrow and running across rooftops.
Directed by Niki Caro and starring Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, Gong Li as Xianniang, and Jet Li as the Emperor, Mulan will hit theaters March 27, 2020. Watch the trailer below. Catherine Garcia
