Trump says Saudi Arabia's King Salman called to 'give his sympathies' for Pensacola shooting by Saudi trainee
A man opened fire at Pensacola, Florida's Naval Air Base early Friday, killing three people before he was shot and killed by police. And after police revealed the shooter was a Saudi military trainee, Trump tweeted to say he'd gotten a condolence call from an unexpected source.
King Salman, the leader of Saudi Arabia, apparently called Trump to offer his condolences say "the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter." "That this person in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people," Salman apparently continued, per Trump's tweet.
That's an odd sentiment coming from the father of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has been accused of silencing and even ordering the murder of dissidents such as U.S.-based Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. It's even odder that Trump decided to share it.
