Republican Tommy Tuberville, a former Auburn University football coach, unseated Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) in Alabama on Tuesday, The Associated Press, The New York Times, and Decision Desk HQ projected. Jones was facing an uphill battle in the conservative state, which he won in a 2018 special election. This is the first pickup for Republicans in the Senate, and it negates the first gain Democrats made in Colorado. Tuberville beat former Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a contested GOP primary; Sessions held the seat before joining the Trump administration.
