The car in the image is equipped with an automatic gearbox, and it’s not yet known whether a manual option will be available when the new Defender launches later this year.

Although some fans questioned the authenticity of the shot, Land Rover’s communications and PR director Richard Angew may have inadvertently confirmed that it is the real deal.

Shortly after the image was posted, Angew requested its removal and threaded legal action against the twitter user.

Land Rover is expected to launch its new Defender at the end of 2019, with deliveries kicking off in 2020, says Auto Express.

The car is expected to be the British carmaker’s most rugged model to date, featuring the latest off-road driving tech and retro-styling inspired by the original Defender from the late 1940s.
