Support for same-sex marriage hits record high
A record 61 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll released Thursday. That total includes more than three-fourths of Democrats as well as two-thirds of Independents.
Overall, only 35 percent of respondents said they oppose same-sex marriage.
Though polls consistently find majority support for same-sex marriage, only a couple have pegged that support at 60 percent or higher. That may soon change given the rapid rise in support over the past half-decade. Here's Pew's chart of that upward trend. —Jon Terbush
