The Supreme Court has agreed to re-hear challenges to affirmative action in university admissions next term. The case follows the use of race in admissions at the University of Texas, where a white undergraduate, Abigail Fisher, was denied admission to the school; Fisher alleged a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The federal appeals court in New Orleans has upheld the university's admissions process in the past, including a ruling last year after the Supreme Court ordered a reconsideration of Fisher's case.
