National Review editor Rich Lowry has persuaded several conservative thinkers to pen essays for a special issue panning Donald Trump.

William Kristol, Erick Erickson, and Yuval Levin are among the essayists, The New York Times reports. A scathing editorial that will anchor the issue, out Friday, pulls no punches: "Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot on behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as The Donald himself." A source told CNN that 22 prominent conservatives contributed to the issue.

Back in September, Trump and Lowry got into a squabble after Lowry said Carly Fiorina verbally castrated Trump during a Republican presidential candidate debate. Trump responded by calling him a "clueless" and "incompetent" "loser."
