At least 10 soldiers at a Somali army base southeast of Mogadishu were killed Monday morning in an attack by al-Shabaab militants, a military official said.

"A suicide car bomber rammed into the base and then al-Shabaab fighters stormed it," Major Ahmed Farah told Reuters. "At least 10 soldiers died." A spokesman for the group confirmed it was behind the attack, and said 30 soldiers were killed. On Sunday, police in northeast Kenya said one officer was wounded when more than 100 al-Shabaab members raided a police station and stole weapons and ammunition.
