The eagle has landed – on boy's head

An eagle attempted to snatch a young boy from the audience during a display at Alice Springs Desert Park in Australia's Northern Territory. The wedge-tailed eagle – the largest bird of prey in Australia, with a wingspan of more than seven feet – flew straight at the boy before grabbing his head with its talons and trying to fly away. The show was cancelled immediately and the boy was treated for superficial cuts to his scalp.

Squatter takes up residence in treehouse

Police were called to a home in Happy Valley, Oregon, after its owners found a meth addict squatting in a treehouse in their back yard. Forty-year-old Troy Miller refused to come out for several hours, despite efforts from police to talk him down. He was eventually lured into the open with a bottle of water.

Police chase suspect climbs into prison

A high-speed car chase in San Diego ended with the suspect stopping outside the Vista Jail and climbing over the fence to get into the prison. Authorities said the man made his way to the prisoner intake yard, where officials closed the gate to trap him in. He was charged with multiple counts of resisting arrest and obstructing police.
