Denver International Airport in the US state of Colorado, has been an unlikely hub of conspiracy theories since it was built in 1995 – and its easy to see why.

Even more strangely, the airport’s dedication stone appears to bear the logo of the Freemasons and mentions an unknown organisation called the “New World Airport Commission”, which some conspiracy theorists have linked to the New World Order.

Others believe the airport – which came in $2bn over budget and includes an extensive underground tunnel system – was built as a fallout shelter.

The airport has chosen to embrace the conspiracy hype. On its website, Fly Denver, there’s a tab called DEN Files which promises the “full scoop on DEN’s wildest rumours.”

Recent construction work at the airport was announced with jokes that managers are building an “illuminati headquarters.”

Emily Williams, a spokesperson for the airport, told the Denver Post: “I think we recognise that conspiracy theories are part of our brand. It’s a fun way that we can engage with our passengers.”
