Retro racer: Caterham unveils exclusive Seven SuperSprint
Only 60 examples of the £30,000 racing-inspired sports car will be made
Caterham has revealed a collection of limited-edition SuperSprint versions of its iconic Seven sports car to celebrate its 60-year anniversary.
The SuperSprint is based on the on the company’s model Sprint and features the same retro-inspired looks and front-mounted three-cylinder motor. However, the firm has upped the sports car's power output to 95bhp, compared with the base model’s 80bhp.
Buyers can choose between six retro-themed paint schemes, which are all inspired by historic racing cars and named after classic racing circuits. These include a dark green with an orange noseband, named after former British Grand Prix venue Aintree; and a silver with a red noseband called Hockenheim - Germany's current Grand Prix venue.

Inside, the SuperSprint gets tan leather seats with four-point harness seatbelts, and a wood-trimmed 12ins Moto-Lita steering wheel. The dashboard features Smiths dials and gearshift light, as well as a bespoke battery cut-off switch similar in style to those in 1960s sports cars.
Caterham’s motorsport and technical chief, Simon Lambert, said: “This is unquestionably the Seven Caterham [we] would have developed if we had been here in the mid-1960s - and it benefits from being injected with the passion and power of the modern incarnation.”
The company’s retro-inspired Sprint model became the “fastest-selling” Caterham of all time when it launched at the end of last year, says Autocar, “with all 60 units finding homes within a week of orders opening”.
Prices for the limited-edition SuperSprint will start from £29,995.
