A cold-weather front nicknamed the “beast from the east” has blasted snow and ice across Europe.
The “beast” has swept snow storms and strong winds from Serbia across the continent, bringing “the coldest end of February and start of March in years for Europe,” says Euronews.
Two regions in Bulgaria have declared a “high-level red alert for strong snowfall” where 40cm of snow is expected.

Lithuanian officials said three people died over the weekend due to the record low temperatures that plunged to as low as minus 24 degrees Celsius, says the Associated Press. An additional seven people had received treatment for “substantial frostbite” on their hands and feet in recent days, Euronews reported.
Temperatures in Brussels are expected to fall as low as -10C, says The Guardian.
France’s national meteorological service said temperatures would be between 8C and 10C below the average for the season.
Meteorologists in Germany have reported a record cold for this winter of -27C on Zugspitze, the country’s highest peak.
Rome, a city “which is not well equipped to deal with snow emergencies” saw its heaviest snowfall in six years and “the largest for the end of February in decades,” The Guardian added.
