Rodman’s cheating heart
Dennis Rodman’s hectic love life is a product of his traumatic childhood in the Dallas projects.
Dennis Rodman doesn’t believe in commitment, said William Leith in The Times (U.K.). The former Chicago Bulls star says he’s slept with more than 2,000 women—including the pop star Madonna—and usually has several lovers at the same time. He flits between a main woman, whom he refers to as “the mothership,” and various satellite squeezes he calls “life rafts.” Rodman’s hectic love life is a product of his traumatic childhood in the Dallas projects. His father, a philanderer, walked out on the family when Rodman was tiny. His mother worked hard to support the family, but had little time for her son. That experience taught Rodman that it’s better to be the cheater than the one being cheated on. “Life doesn’t play fair, man,” says Rodman, 52. “Pick a woman. What’s the chance she’s going to be with you forever? If you Googled divorce rates today, it’s insane!” Still, sometimes he falls in love. His great romance was with the model and actress Carmen Electra. “I don’t know how many rooms we destroyed having sex.’’ The couple married in 1998, but split five months later over Rodman’s infidelities. “She couldn’t tame the wild man,” he says, “and neither could I.”
