The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS.org) is dedicated to promoting science education, the responsible use of science in public policy, and collaboration within the international scientific community. Founded in 1848, the AAAS puts out a number of scientific publications, including the weekly Science, which has the largest circulation of any peer-reviewed general science journal in the world. The organization monitors government science policies and funding, and counsels universities and other institutions on how they can enhance their research efforts. The AAAS also conducts conferences and workshops on the legal and ethical responsibilities of scientists and fosters an ongoing discussion between the scientific and religious communities.
