TV on the go: Best ways to watch programming on remote devices
Slingbox 500; Belkin @TV Plus; TiVo Stream; Boxee TV
Slingbox 500 builds on Slingbox’s reputation for “TV anywhere” by upgrading the device’s picture quality to 1080p. This $300 Wi-Fi-enabled box “commandeers” your home cable or satellite box, letting you watch your home TV and DVR wherever you are. To watch on a phone or tablet, you have to add a $15 app.
Belkin @TV Plus works like Slingbox but “at half the price—and about half the quality.” Its low-resolution picture proves “disappointing when viewed on anything larger than a phone.”
TiVo Stream enables you to download shows from your DVR to an iPhone or iPad. The box costs $130.
