Charity of the week: The Dream Factory
The Dream Factory grants wishes to children suffering from serious illnesses.
The Dream Factory (dreamfactoryinc.org) grants wishes to children with pediatric illnesses, helping them to deal with the trauma and stress of being sick. Since 1980, the organization has provided more than 25,000 children suffering from serious illnesses with dream experiences, such as traveling to Hawaii, meeting a NASCAR driver, and being a model for a day. The organization relies on donations, local fund-raisers, and the work of thousands of volunteers to make the children’s wishes come true. The Dream Factory is the only charity in the U.S. that grants dream experiences not only to children with life-threatening conditions but also to those with chronic diseases.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
