Charity of the week: Food Allergy Initiative
FAI provides more funding than any private organization in the world for cutting-edge research into life-threatening food allergies.
The mission of the Food Allergy Initiative (faiusa.org) is to find a cure for life-threatening food allergies. FAI provides more funding than any private organization in the world for cutting-edge research into such allergies, including investigating how they originate, testing potential cures, and improving diagnoses. The organization also works to educate the food and hospitality industry about the dangers of cross-contamination, and advocates on behalf of families with food allergies for public policies that improve the quality of their lives. It was instrumental in the passing of a 2004 law mandating that food labels list whether products have any of the eight major food allergens.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
