The 2012 Aventador LP700-4
What the critics say about Lamborghini’s new $393,695 automobile
AutoWeek
“You know you’re in the cockpit of a special machine” when you ease into Lamborghini’s latest automotive creation. With its ultralightweight carbon-fiber body, “go-for-the-jugular” styling, and screamingly fast V12 all-wheel-drive propulsion, this supercar is “a jet aircraft for the earthbound.” We have no doubt that owners will love its combination of track-ready intensity, street-steady ride, and easy drivability: It’s even a pleasure when you’re just “tooling around town at 25 mph.”

Named after a famous fighting bull, the Aventador is “what you might call intentionally violent” in both looks and performance. Its styling is “all geometric aggressiveness,” and its “otherworldly” acceleration propels it to 217 mph “in the time it takes to turn on an iPad.” You’d need the skill and bravery of a matador to tame this beast, which “has a way of revealing your shortcomings” as a driver “in rather ruthless fashion.”

Sure, this Lamborghini boasts “absurd power,” but it also has three push-button–activated performance modes that “govern just how stupid you can be.” Besides, its supernatural driving dynamics make it almost “a 690-hp pussycat.” No wonder the first 18 months of production are already sold out. This supercar “makes lesser drivers look like heroes.”
