Trump opts out of 2012: A mockery roundup

The Donald's short-lived presidential flirtations provided plenty of comic fodder, as did the Monday announcement that he won't run after all

Will he or won't he? For weeks, the question hung over Donald Trump's comb-over. And now — drumroll — the answer: He won't. On Monday, the real estate tycoon, reality TV star, and birther evangelist released a statement saying that he would not run for president, a decision that follows his lucrative new deal with NBC to continue Celebrity Apprentice. "I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election," Trump said. "Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector." Naturally, Trump's big news (and the assertion that he would have won) has commentators cracking wise. Here, a sampling of wit:
