Convoy of Hope (convoyofhope.org) is a first-responder organization that partners with local philanthropies to rush disaster relief to stricken areas. It was one of the first charities to provide aid to Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake, using its fleet of tractor-trailers and 300,000-square-foot distribution center to speed supplies to the island nation. Within hours of last week’s devastating earthquakes in Japan, Convoy of Hope was working with in-country partners to identify what assistance was needed and where it was needed most. Convoy of Hope also operates children’s feeding programs, delivering vital nutrition to more than 88,000 children in six countries and helping local communities develop self-sustaining health, education, and agricultural programs.
Each charity highlighted on this page has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, the largest evaluator of charities in America. Charity Navigator ranks not-for-profit organizations on their financial strength, the effectiveness of their programs, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
