Collins, who sold more than 150 million albums with Genesis and in a solo career, is quitting the music business.
Phil Collins, who sold more than 150 million albums with Genesis and in a solo career, said this week he was quitting the music business. “I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: ‘I can’t be in the same business as this,’” said Collins, who is suffering from nerve damage and a dislocated vertebra from years of drumming. “I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me.” Collins apologized for the success of his many hit records, saying, “It’s hardly surprising that people grew to hate me.”
