The video: Supporters of Sarah Palin have registered their admiration for the Alaska Republican, as well as their hopes for her political future, in a rousing song that was posted on YouTube last October but went viral on Monday. The song, credited to Tom Dempsey (lyrics) and Gary Mcvay (vocals), is sung to the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," and was apparently recorded in a church. The reaction: This "fantastic nugget of hathos" is a sincere tribute, says Andrew Sullivan in The Atlantic, and as such, a direct rebuttal to those in the chattering class who kid themselves "that Sarah Palin doesn't matter." Some of the lyrics, like the line about throwing people in jail, are "drawing some fire," says Buddy Trent in The Post Chronicle. But the song reflects "some of the discontent and frustration with the current Obama administration."
