A Connecticut pizzeria owner has been told that letting his children help in the kitchen violates child-labor laws. Michael Nuzzo, owner of Nuzzo’s Grand Apizza in New Haven, says he wants his three children to learn the family trade. “It’s our culture,” said Nuzzo. “It’s our tradition.” But a state Labor Department spokesman says the law is designed to protect children from “hot stoves and knives,” and that “we’re obliged to apply the law.”

A Texas man has been arrested for swimming in the Gulf of Mexico. Police say Jesus Mares, 22, waded into the oily water off Grand Isle beach in Louisiana, even though it had been declared unsafe. After getting cleaned up in a decontamination unit, Mares was charged with criminal trespassing.
