2006 Bordeaux: A rare opportunity

The best 2006 red Bordeaux are not cheap, but these three are among the best buys and offer “value-rich opportunity” for adventurous wine lovers.

When retailers were placing orders for 2006 Bordeaux wines, the Dow Jones stood near 14,000, and money was no object, said Dave McIntyre in The Washington Post. These quintessential red wines are just now reaching shelves, and retailers may have to unload them at cut prices, to make room for a glut of additional bumper years still coming down the pike. The best 2006 red Bordeaux are not cheap, even when discounted, but they offer an exceptional “value-rich opportunity” for adventurous wine lovers. Here are three of the best buys.

Château Palmer 2006 (Margaux, $180)

Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme in the Margaux region on the left bank of the Gironde River. But Palmer blends it with 44 percent Merlot to create a wine with “impressive depth and finesse.”
