US Airways’ beverage reversal, Freedlander’s department store departure
Good day for sweetening the deal, Bad day for buying local
GOOD DAY FOR: Sweetening the deal, after US Airways announced that it will resume free beverage service on its flights starting March 1. Since last August, the airline has charged $2 per soft drink or bottled water on all domestic flights. It was the only large carrier to charge for nonalcoholic drinks, which put it at a competitive disadvantage in a tough air-travel market. (AP in Yahoo! Finance)
BAD DAY FOR: Buying local, as the Wooster, Ohio, department store Freedlander’s is closing its doors at the end of the week, after 125 years in business. Freedlander’s is one of the last locally owned department stores in the nation. The three-story building will be torn down and replaced with a retail-and-condominium complex. (Akron Beacon Journal)
