Back-to-work blues
Summer’s lazy days are over, said Tara Weiss in Forbes. Time to get back to work. If you’re struggling to stay motivated, you’re not alone. This is the season when many people rethink their careers—and that’s not a bad thing. Dust off your last performance evaluation to “refresh your memory of the expectations your manager set for you this year.” There’s enough time to make a good impression on your boss before the year’s end. Still can’t get jazzed about the job? “Learn a new skill to help you get to the next level”—or to help you land a new job.
Even if you have to drag yourself into the office every day, don’t give up on the job, said Katherine Spencer Lee in Computerworld. “Instead, take some time to figure out what you can do to breathe some life” into it. That may require tweaking your job description a bit. “If you relish certain components of your job, seek out ways to increase these activities and decrease those you dislike.” While working on improving the day-to-day aspects of your job, don’t lose sight of the end game. “Establishing a tangible goal provides a sense of purpose,” which is the key ingredient for satisfaction at any job.
