Good day, Bad day

A yellow revolution, Cabbies

GOOD DAY FOR: A yellow revolution, after a town in southern India succeeded in getting residents to use public toilets by paying them about a dollar a month. With little access to sanitation, going to the bathroom in public is a common sight in rural India, and a threat to local hygiene. Researchers are also collecting urine from the public restrooms to study its potential as a crop fertilizer. (Reuters)

BAD DAY FOR: Cabbies, as rising gas prices are crimping the earnings of taxi drivers, pushing many of them to work longer hours or switch careers. Cab drivers now spend $14,400 a year on gas, a 42 percent rise in two years, according to the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association trade group. At least 34 cities have raised taxi fares and 11 others have instituted fuel surcharges. (CNNMoney.com)
