GOOD DAY FOR: Unexpected pleasures, as the nation’s best-tasting tap water is found in Los Angeles, according to a national tasting of more than 120 waters. “It means they give special care and attention to their water and how it is processed,” said Jill Klein Rone, the producer of the tasting event, held in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. (AP in USA Today)
BAD DAY FOR: Sweet 16, as the number of 16-year-olds with a driver’s license fell to 29.8 percent in 2006, from 43.8 percent in 1998, amid higher insurance rates, more restrictive laws, and a shift to more costly private driving schools. Parents are also more willing now to chauffeur their driving-age children around. (The New York Times, free registration)
