Good Day, Bad Day

A profitable romance, a free-for-all

GOOD DAY FOR: A profitable romance, as Italian-born French singer/songwriter Carla Bruni is expected to see strong sales for her English-language debut album, thanks to her whirlwind romance with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The former supermodel’s 2002 debut album, in French, sold 1.2 million copies in France, and about 60,000 in the U.S. (The Wall Street Journal)

BAD DAY FOR: A free-for-all, after Rupert Murdoch quashed rumors that he would drop the subscription fee for The Wall Street Journal’s Web site. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Murdoch said he would “greatly expand and improve” the free section of the Web site, however, and raise the online subscription price, probably by $20 a year.
