A brand new bag, rainy-day saving
GOOD DAY FOR: A brand new bag, as Whole Foods will stop offering plastic shopping bags today. Customers can choose between free recycled paper bags and buying reusable bags. Americans throw away about 100 billion plastic bags a year, says Worldwatch. But 92 percent also reuse their plastic bags, said Keith Christman at the American Chemistry Council. Whole Foods “is different from other chains,” he added. (USA Today)
BAD DAY FOR: Rainy-day saving, after a 33 percent hike in bank robberies has prompted the Florida Bankers Association to push for a “No Hats, No Hoods, No Sunglasses” policy for customers at member banks. Similar dress codes have worked in other states. “Bankers aren’t just going to hope robbers won’t come,” said FBA president Alex Sanchez. (AP in Fox News)
