GOOD DAY FOR: Faith in investing, after funds that invests based on Islamic law are among the best-performing funds this year. The Amana Income Fund, for example, is up 13 percent in 2007, compared to a 3.6 percent average for stock funds. Islamic-law funds don’t invest in banks, which has helped them avoid the credit-crunch fallout. (The Wall Street Journal)
BAD DAY FOR: Olde English, after a modern-language adaptation of Beowulf topped the U.S. box office this weekend, drawing in $28.1 million. About $8 million came from theaters showing special 3-D versions of the animated film. “Beowulf” cost $160 million to make. (Los Angeles Times, free registration required)
