‘Harry Potter’ bares all
The week's news at a glance.
London
Daniel Radcliffe, the 17-year-old actor who plays teen wizard Harry Potter in the movie series, got raves this week for his performance in a revival of Equus. The Peter Shaffer play follows a psychiatrist trying to unravel why Radcliffe’s character, a sexually conflicted teen, blinded six horses in his care. (The psychiatrist is played by Richard Griffiths, who plays Harry’s wicked Uncle Vernon in the films.) Prior to the premiere, there was much sniggering speculation about how Radcliffe would carry off the play’s nude scenes. The reviews, though, were almost uniformly fawning. Last year, Radcliffe became the youngest nonroyal to have his portrait hung in Britain’s National Portrait Gallery.
