El Dovio, Colombia
A leader of Colombia’s Norte del Valle drug cartel was captured this week after a shootout with Colombian police. Eugenio Montoya, known as Don Hugo, was arrested in El Dovio, a Norte del Valle stronghold in western Colombia. Authorities estimate the cartel ships 150 metric tons of cocaine annually to the U.S., and it has been accused of working with right-wing death squads to protect its drug routes. The U.S. government had offered a $5 million reward for Montoya’s capture.
