A new Jack the Ripper
The week's news at a glance.
Ipswich, U.K.
A serial killer may be on the loose in Ipswich, in eastern England, police said this week. In the past two weeks, authorities have found the naked bodies of five murdered prostitutes in or near the city. "We may be looking for one perpetrator," said Detective Stewart Gull. "There may be more." The killer could be modeling himself on Jack the Ripper, who killed five prostitutes in London in 1888 and was never caught. Another copycat, Peter Sutcliffe, known as the Yorkshire Ripper, murdered 13 women, most of them prostitutes, in the 1970s. Gull said Ipswich prostitutes should stay off the streets for their own safety.
