Washington, D.C.
The Justice Department is investigating Rep. Curt Weldon’s relationship with a Russian energy firm, The Washington Post reported last week. FBI agents working on the case have raided six locations, including the home of Weldon’s daughter, a Washington lobbyist. A federal grand jury has been looking into whether Weldon, a Pennsylvania Republican, improperly steered Russia’s Itera International Energy Corp. to his daughter’s lobbying firm, and whether he accepted favors for helping Itera keep a federal contract. Weldon, who is locked in a tight re-election race against Democrat Joe Sestak, a former admiral, denied any wrongdoing, calling the charges politically motivated.
