Sex-slavery ring busted
The week's news at a glance.
New York City
Federal law enforcement agents last week broke up a human-trafficking ring that allegedly supplied prostitutes to brothels up and down the East Coast. Twenty massage parlors, spas, and other front businesses from Connecticut to North Carolina were closed, and agents arrested 31 people who allegedly smuggled women in from South Korea and put them to work as “sex slaves.” Prosecutors said that if the women tried to escape, brothel owners threatened to harm them or their families, or to turn them over to immigration authorities.
