Mobster fools police
The week's news at a glance.
Novosibirsk, Russia
A Russian mobster escaped from prison this week by posing as his brother. Valery Voblikov, a Siberian crime boss accused in a handful of murders, was allowed to meet his younger brother Dmitry in a private room in the prison complex, ostensibly to discuss his defense. The two exchanged clothes, and Valery walked out of the prison, leaving Dmitry behind in prison garb. Dmitry, who claims his brother’s mob forced him into the switch, is now in custody. At his hearing, the judge demanded to know whether the Voblikovs have any more siblings.
