Seventh-graders charged
The week's news at a glance.
North Pole, Alaska
Alaska police arrested six seventh-grade boys last week and accused them of plotting to shoot and stab classmates and teachers at North Pole Middle School. A parent tipped off police after hearing rumors about the plan. The students allegedly intended to cut off the school’s electricity and phones to give them time to escape their town, population 1,600, after the attack. Investigators said the boys were seeking revenge against fellow students who picked on them. In recent weeks, police in Kansas and New Jersey said they had foiled similar plots. “Something like this can happen anywhere,” said Paul Lindhag, North Pole’s police chief.
