Immigrant raid goes bad
The week's news at a glance.
Tultitlan, Mexico
Police rounding up illegal immigrants who had entered Mexico from Guatemala on their way to the United States shot and killed a Mexican construction worker this week, setting off a small riot. Witnesses said the victim, 20-year-old Roberto Lugo, was targeted because his complexion and work clothes made him look foreign. “They come and grab people just because they are dark-skinned,” said one local resident. Angry citizens overturned and destroyed two immigration service vehicles and refused to disperse until authorities promised that the officer who killed Lugo would be prosecuted.
