Kansas City, Mo.
Tornadoes swept through the Midwest this week, killing at least 10 people and damaging more than half of the buildings at the University of Kansas. In the Chicago area, some 110 tornadoes reportedly touched down as three powerful storms peeled roofs off apartment buildings and damaged thousands of homes. Seven Illinois counties were declared disaster areas. “It’s just amazing how devastating it is,” said Mayor Tim Davlin of Springfield, Ill. Another seven people were killed in Texas, where wildfires burned a half-million acres.
