Israel back on offensive
The week's news at a glance.
Gaza Strip
Just weeks after pulling troops out of Gaza, Israeli forces this week launched missile strikes into the territory. Since the pullout, Palestinian militants from Hamas have been firing rockets into Israeli towns from an area in northern Gaza. So far, Israel has retaliated by destroying bridges and roads that lead to that area; nobody was injured in the retaliatory strikes. But Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said that if the Palestinian attacks don’t stop, Israel will resume “targeted killings” of Hamas leaders. Israeli forces also rounded up some 300 suspected militants in the West Bank.
