Serbs disloyal

NATO demanded an explanation from the Bosnian Serb government this week after Bosnian Serb army recruits swore allegiance to Republika Srpska instead of to Bosnia. Republika Srpska is the Bosnian Serb half of Bosnia; the Muslim-Croat Federation is the other half. General Steven Schook, head of NATO’s mission in Sarajevo, ordered the Bosnian Serb defense minister to punish those responsible for the treasonous ceremony. “The act of breaking a law of the state, particularly by a military organization, is one of the worst things that can happen in a government institution,” Schook said. The recruits’ family members who were watching the ceremony were wearing T-shirts supporting Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, two indicted war criminals believed to be hiding in Republika Srpska.
