Paris
Violence motivated by anti-Semitism and racism in France reached an all-time high last year, France’s human rights body said this week. Anti-Semitic acts overtook racist acts in 2000, and by last year there were 970 attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions, compared with 595 attacks on all other groups. In earlier years, the Human Rights Commission said, attacks had been correlated with events in Israel, but that was not the case last year. Anti-Semitism “has now become a constant,” said commission head Gérard Fellous.
